AcidBuf
Learn more about about AcidBuf!
Do you want to condition the rumen and neutralise significantly more acid for longer?
AcidBuf is a highly efficient rumen buffer made from calcareous marine algae. Its natural honeycomb structure breaks down slowly in the rumen providing twice the buffering capacity of sodium bicarbonate, even when fed at much lower concentrations.
It’s a rumen buffer and conditioner for increasing milk yield through improved rumen fermentation.
Key features of AcidBuf:
- Improves feed utilisation and efficiency
- Improved milk yield and components
- Stabilises rumen pH and optimises rumen conditions
- Proven through peer reviewed published research

AcidBuf has so many benefits when it comes too transition cows and calves.
Transition Cows
A well-managed transition period sets the cow up for the next lactation. You can support transition cows by feeding AcidBuf during the transition period.
- Helps cows return to a positive energy balance quicker
- Helps reduce costly inflammation
- Improves performance in next lactation (increased energy-corrected milk and solids)
Calves
It is important to maximise calf starter intake for optimal calf growth and rumen development. However, at weaning, the increased calf starter intake can reduce rumen pH low enough for the gut to become leaky. This allows toxins and bacteria to be absorbed into the calf’s blood and a costly inflammatory response is induced. This uses up energy which could have been otherwise used for growth. Feed AcidBuf as part of your calf starter ration to reduce the likelihood of leaky gut and inflammation.

When it comes to endotoxins and cost of inflammation AcidBuf has got you covered!
Endotoxins
It is good to feed concentrates to help meet energy demands for lactation, however this can have effects on the rumen and overall gut health. Increasing acidity causes leaky gut, and the release of endotoxins from gut bacteria. These endotoxins can be absorbed through the leaky gut, into the cow’s blood and initiate an inflammatory response.
Cost of inflammation
Leaky gut induces an inflammatory response due to the absorption of endotoxins, mycotoxins or undesirable bacteria into the cow’s blood. Research has shown that for a Holstein dairy cow, the energy requirement to fuel an active immune response is around 2kg of glucose per day. This equates to a cost of 7kg of milk per cow per day.
